Thursday Mar 08, 2018
Moral Turpitude Noun * Conduct that is believed to be contrary to community standards of honesty, good morals, or justice. Origin 15th century Latin turpitudo (“vile” or “base”) A Sweet Remembrance. Today we are back with Lloyd Wilkey. Please go back to the first episode find it here, episode 4. You can find Lloyd on twitter @mindfulpolicing. Lloyd is an activist, human relations trainer focusing on law enforcement, education, business, non-profit. He's a mediator, self-defense coach @ LA Riot Boxing, and he's a singer. We go deeper into the conversation we had with Lloyd previously. We cover: * Unconscious bias/Implicit bias * School to prison pipeline * Policing * Museum of Tolerance and the Sites of Conscience * Moral turpitude, and more Breaking from the norm of using a quote from the episode as a title, we named this episode "A Sweet Remembrance". A nod to Lloyd as he and his family traverse rough waters and to serve as a reminder that he and his wife their progeny are a living legacy. We really enjoyed recording this and think you'll enjoy listening. Join us as we continue the social experiment to find connection and discussion that can lead to meaningful action. Felecia Killings /// We Find Ourselves With More In Common Than Different /// E011
Thursday Feb 01, 2018
Thursday Feb 01, 2018
Well, here is the first guest episode of 2018! Additionally, this is our first conversation under the new name, MORE IN COMMON! We are excited to bring this discussion to you. In this episode, we have Felecia Killings. Felecia is a devoted mother, educator, and entrepreneur. She is the Founder and CEO of FKMinistries, which seeks to help people walk in their calling. She is the Executive Director of LiyahAmore Publishing, which helps Christian Authors build their writing ministries. And she is committed to helping people discover that we have more in common with each, in spite of our political differences. Today, we find ourselves with more in common than different. She can be found on her website at www.feleciakillings.com. We learn about her experiences helping drive change in her public system and have a great discussion about our differing views on politics and the nature of today's media as it influences the political narrative. This is a wonderful conversation that truly demonstrates the nature of civility and getting to know one another even if we come from opposite viewpoints on any topic. We really have a lot in common with Felecia even though we disagree with a lot of things. The discussion was a lot of fun and was wonderful to have! Enjoy listening as much as we did recording. Hey Friend, Let’s Talk About Guns /// E009
Friday Dec 29, 2017
Friday Dec 29, 2017
Let's Talk About Guns Welcome back as we took a small respite to enjoy the Thanksgiving holiday with our families and to build out a release docket for the next 6 months that we should all enjoy! Today, join us as we explore the topic of gun ownership, rights and use. This is actually a topic we have never discussed before and given the nature of sensitivity we wanted to see where the conversation went. This is a great foray into how we have discussions were we sincerely reach a point of disagreement through the dialogue. The goal of what we aim to demonstrate through all our episodes. While we don't come from extreme differences we demonstrate the nuanced complexities of this discussion. Enjoy and at the end, take note of the call to action. Notes: Want to learn about HRV? Lloyd Wilkey /// Oh, So I’m Black Now? I Wasn’t Black During The War /// E006
Saturday Oct 14, 2017
Saturday Oct 14, 2017
Oh, So I'm Black Now? I Wasn't Black During The War Today we learn about Lloyd. Lloyd is gracious to share his story that led him to today where he lives in Los Angeles and is an Activist, a Human Relations Trainer doing work with Law Enforcement, businesses, non-profits, and educators. He is a Mediator, Youth worker, boxing/self-defense coach, and singer. After living his developmental years in Boston during the Civil Rights movement of the 60s and surviving some intense trauma during those years, Lloyd has dedicated his life to improving the communities around him. It certainly hasn't always been easy, but he perseveres in his efforts to make the world he lives in a better place. Lloyd's story is certainly interesting and his perspective is rooted in experiences many of us don't have. This episode doesn't have choice language but some of the subject matter is heavy. Just know before listening depending who you listen with.
